Subtitle support is regressed after last update

VLC is a great media player but after upgrading to 2.8.8, subtitle size was reduced to about 1 pixel high. You can only barely see the subtitles as a small thin line if there is a white background (you can see other users with the same issue in vlc forums).

Urgent fix needed to resolve this major hiccup.
